I came up with the idea to make the Bedbug as an alternative to hot water bottles for my children. They are unique and very cute. They are easy to make and easy to sell. I worked from my sewing room for many years.
Selling them can be done at Craft fairs where you would sell them for the retail or close to retail price. The potential for profit is substantial.
They can be wholesaled to retail stores. The Gift Show's are a fantastic industry only shows where store owners come to purchase for thier stores.
It is a very simple and profitable business to run from your house. You will fall in love with Bedbugs.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
I ran the business out of my house until it grew too large. I had the Bedbug made in Taiwan eventually, then completed a Trademark Licencing Agreement with a Vancouver company. They were very sucessful until an family crisis stopped the owner from doing the sales.
I then had a company in Edmonton take over the Agreement. They had sewing experience but not sales experience. They did a very poor job of selling. I have legally cancelled the agreement with them in February, 2009. My biggest year was $50,000.00 sales.
MARKET & COMPETITION
It can be as small or as big as you want it. You will sell in children themed stores, gift stores, spa retail. You can wholesale at Gift shows and retail at Craft shows. Your competiton is very small. Warm Buddies and Relaxus are the only two I can come up with.
By owning the Trademark you have the ability to do licencing agreements with other companies. The Bedbug can be embroidered with a company Logo.
You can franchise the Bedbug so they can be made in different cities. You would collect a royalty for this.
